impeachment Trump update

Impeachment Hearings Activism

Impeachment Hearings Need Activism Support

Have you been watching the testimony coming out of the impeachment hearings ?
Donald Trump just talked about us on Twitter because he’s scared of what we can do together.

We were going to email you about the book today but this is more important:

A screenshot of @RealDonaldTrump retweeting a tweet that reads "Obama-trained Indivisible astroturfers -- fake protesters posing as constituents (or as CNN pretends, "voter[s]) -- were behind this ambush of GOP Sen. Ernst over impeachment at her town hall yesterday"

This morning, Trump retweeted a (hilariously wrong) attack on Indivisible. This comes on the heels of last month’s attacks from right wing media agency FreedomWorks.

These attacks are just more proof that Trump and the right wing are scared of our movement. They know we’re the people who’ll build the blue wave to sweep them out of office. But we can only do that with funding to keep providing bird-dogging tools and policy resources to Indivisibles on the ground. Please: make a donation of $10 to fund the blue wave, provide the support Indivisibles need to keep fighting, and fund all of Indivisible Action’s movement-sustaining work.

Here’s why they keep coming after us: because they know Indivisibles nationwide are having an impact. That “ambush” that he’s talking about? That was when a constituent of Sen. Joni Ernst’s showed up to a town hall to get Sen. Ernst on the record about the Ukraine whistleblower and impeachment. Like thousands of Indivisibles nationwide, she showed up to make her voice heard during this (and every) recess.

The voter bird-dogged perfectlyShe didn’t give up when Sen. Ernst gave non-answer after non-answer. She kept asking her question. “Where is the line? When are you guys going to say, ‘Enough,’ and stand up and say, ‘I’m not backing any of this?’” She reminded Ernst that  “You didn’t pledge an oath to the president. You pledged it to our country, you pledged it to our constitution.”

And she succeeded! Thanks to her persistence, she got Sen. Ernst on the record saying the whistleblower should be protected.

That’s the kind of work Indivisibles are doing every single day. It’s what we work for with every toolkit, every policy resource, every text message, and every call tool we release into the world. And we’re proud to be able to do that while depending on the grassroots, not just mega-donors: small, individual givers are our largest source of funding! But we can’t continue building those tools without more support, so please: Make a donation to Indivisible Action today, to respond to Trump’s attack and invest in the blue wave.

Need to Impeach LogoWe’re so close

What happens now that we have more than enough votes in the House to impeach Donald Trump? We increase the pressure, in public!

Congress is on recess over the next two weeks, so we’re showing up at town halls and constituent events to say: #ImpeachNow. Check to see if your representative will host an event near you by clicking “Find an Event,” below.

Don’t let Congress think its job is done. Now is the time to call them, show up to their town halls, and make sure every member of Congress hears our message: they need to take a vote to impeach Trump and remove him from office.
Thanks,
Need to Impeach

Matters of “Urgent Concern”

The whistleblower’s complaint is clear, James: “the President of the United States is using the power of his office to solicit interference from a foreign country in the 2020 U.S. election.”

We know this isn’t the first time Donald Trump has sought aid from a foreign country, and we know this isn’t Trump’s only impeachable offense. That’s why it’s time to do the right thing and hold this lawless president accountable — something Tom has been calling for since 2017. Sign on to support Tom and demand that Congress move forward with impeachment.
Tom's tweet: "How much more obvious does the president need to be? He is the most corrupt president in American history. We have the voted in the House. Impeach him now."
The nine pages of the whistleblower’s complaint reveal matters of “urgent concern” to our country’s national security and elections. Trump’s personal attorney, Rudy Giuliani, met with Ukrainian officials multiple times. White House officials who witnessed Trump’s call with the Ukrainian president on July 25 were “deeply disturbed” and worked to “lock down” all records to protect the politically sensitive information. Then Trump suspended security aid to Ukraine.

The truth is out. We have the votes in the House. It’s time for Congress to act. Join Team Tom in calling for Trump’s impeachment.

Thanks,
Team Tom

Tipping Point Moment

Tipping point moment has been reached, Trump’s stone wall of privilege is coming down!

Dear MoveOn member,

It’s time to take the impeachment fight to the Republicans in Congress and demand they put our country over their party.

That’s why MoveOn is launching a series of hard-hitting ads and local actions in key states to get key Republican senators and House members on their heels, starting during the congressional recess that’s happening right now and continuing throughout the upcoming months of the impeachment fight.

We need the funds to buy very visible ads and hire staff on the ground to pull off media-grabbing events that will drive local news coverage. And at the same time, we need to keep pressure on Democrats—to keep them strong through the congressional recess and as we barrel toward an actual impeachment vote—which means we have to have the resources to run multiple projects at once—and keep them running for the long haul.

This is going to be a long battle. We can win if we are outspent. But winning will still cost millions. And that is why we need you, James.

Can you chip in $5 a month so MoveOn can bring the impeachment fight to key states and districts, force Republicans to choose between loyalty to their constituents and loyalty to Trump, build up public pressure for Democrats to act swiftly and decisively in the House, and push back against Trump’s media narrative for as long as it takes?

Yes, I’ll chip in monthly to help hold Republicans’ feet to the fire to impeach and convict Trump.

No, I’m sorry, I can’t make a monthly donation.

Just think about how Mitch McConnell was pummeled by critiques of his obstruction of two election protection bills. He hated the moniker “Moscow Mitch” so much that he lashed out against it … and ultimately gave in and held a vote on one of the bills.

That will pale in comparison to the pressure McConnell—and other Republicans—should feel now. Because when the House impeaches Trump—yes, we believe it’s “when,” not “if,” in part because of the nonstop organizing and advocacy by MoveOn members like you and our allies across the country—it will be on the Senate to hold a trial to convict Trump and remove him from office.

The conventional wisdom has been that Senate Republicans would acquit Trump. But increasingly, they know they’re putting their own jobs at risk as Trump’s house of cards begins to collapse. House Judiciary Committee Chair Jerry Nadler stated, “I think the bottom is falling out so fast that there is a reasonable chance the Senate will in fact convict.”1

And, for the first time, a majority of Americans now support impeaching Trump and removing him from office.2

So that’s why we’re coming down hard on Senators Susan Collins of Maine, Cory Gardner of Colorado, Thom Tillis of North Carolina, Martha McSally of Arizona, and more—including Mitch McConnell himself—so that they have to face tough questions, constituent backlash, and negative press in their home states during the entirety of the impeachment process.

Trump enablers announced a $10 million television ad buy on top of running more than 1,800 Facebook ads peddling his Orwellian narrative on impeachment—seen by 16-18 million people—in the past seven days alone.3,4

Stunningly, due in part to the right-wing media’s false and misleading advertising and in part to an increasingly polarized America, a majority of Republican voters don’t believe that Trump discussed Biden with Ukraine’s president, despite Trump actually admitting it.5 And while a majority of Americans favor impeachment, only 17% of Fox viewers share that view—a reminder of the impact that Fox and Trump’s megaphones (and a lack of agreement about basic facts or reality) have in rallying a right-wing base.6

We have to fight back against Trump’s media narrative, as Trump and his administration desperately try to shift the blame, distract the media, and peddle conspiracy theories to confuse everyone else. We have to counter this onslaught with compelling, fact-based videos that cut through the noise, with ads in targeted states and congressional districts, with op-eds, and more.

Finally, we can’t relent on Democrats. It was our persistent grassroots pressure, including a hugely successful Impeachment August, that won us growing Democratic support, then a majority, then a nearly unanimous Democratic caucus. But it’s imperative they don’t back down. So we’re ramping up campaigns to make sure they know that we expect a vote on actual articles of impeachment without delay—and that if they stand strong, MoveOn members will have their backs for as long as it takes.

Will you chip in $5 a month to make this all possible?

Yes, I’ll chip in monthly.

No, I’m sorry, I can’t make a monthly donation.

In 1974, it was after the House drafted articles of impeachment that Nixon, confronted with the reality that the Senate wouldn’t acquit him and that Republicans were abandoning him, resigned rather than face impeachment.

We can’t know how this story will play out, but we know that shifting popular opinion can play an enormous role—and that we can’t let Republicans off the hook.

Thanks for all you do,
–David, Michael, Erica, Katie, and the rest of the team
