The Impeachment of Politics

Impeachment Politics – Have No Fear, Democrats

While old establishment icons of the Democratic Party claim to have cold feet as a reason to dither, wondering if the timing is right, the time is always right to fight back against the Republicans. Impeaching Trump is a Constitutional duty, not a political calculation to fear making.

House Democrats know that Donald Trump is unfit for office. Yet instead of moving forward with impeachment, they appear consumed with whether or not they will suffer for it politically.

Impeaching Mr. Trump isn’t just the right thing to do — it’s good politics too. House Democrats need to move forward with confidence, and pressure from this community will show them how serious we are about this issue. If you’re ready to see action, sign up to volunteer with this team — and show the world why impeachment is so critical.

Here’s the long and short of it:
  • Acting on impeachment would force Senate Republicans to publicly stand with Mr. Trump — just as they’ve stood with him as he’s willfully obstructed justice, profited off the presidency, and brazenly lied to the public. In the 2018 midterm elections, the American people made it clear they do not want representatives who are blindly devoted to Mr. Trump. Instead, they want people in office who will hold him accountable, and if Republicans continue to stick by the President, let them do so on the record.
  • The impeachment process can sway public opinion and force a reckoning among the President’s partisan defenders. Fewer than 30% of Americans wanted Richard Nixon impeached when the House Judiciary Committee began its investigation. But after the Committee uncovered evidence, and the public had the opportunity to hear sworn testimony on live television and judge President Nixon’s corrupt wrongdoing for themselves, support for Nixon’s ouster soared to 57%.
  • The stage is already set for a Trump reckoning. Most Americans strongly dislike Mr. Trump; 55% of independents disapprove of his presidency, and 30% of conservatives say they won’t vote for him in 2020. Those feelings only intensify when public hearings like Michael Cohen’s or the release of the redacted Mueller report dominate the news. The impeachment process would remind these voters why they don’t approve of this lawless president.
For two years, members of Congress said we needed to wait for Mr. Mueller before making any judgments on impeachment. Now the excuses have run out, and it’s up to our representatives to follow the Constitution instead of playing political games. Volunteer with Need to Impeach this month, and help us advocate for action on impeachment.

Urge Majority Leader Hoyer to hold Trump Accountable

House Majority Leader Steny Hoyer, the second most powerful Democrat in the House, might be coming around to impeachment. After the Mueller report came out, he said: “Going forward with impeachment is not worthwhile at this point.” But just a few days ago he told reporters that impeachment was the “ultimate option” to make the White House cooperate with congressional investigations.

This community has sent Rep. Hoyer more than 18,000 emails urging him to initiate the impeachment process. We need to keep up the pressure, because it’s clearly working. Can you send an email too?

When we put our voices together, we’re capable of effecting change in Washington. As a member of House leadership, Rep. Hoyer could hold Donald Trump accountable — and this is something we deem absolutely “worthwhile.”

This team of over 8 million people is a force to be reckoned with, so let’s keep advocating for impeachment until it happens. Make sure Majority Leader Hoyer knows where you stand.
