This Mother’s Day weekend, Our Revolution wants you to meet five progressive women who are running for office and putting families first. Once you’ve been introduced, we’re going to ask you to make a donation to fund Our Revolution’s work electing them and more progressive candidates across the country.

Tiffany Cabán, Helen Gym, Erika Almirón, Jackie Goldberg, and Yasmine Taeb

Tiffany Cabán is the only public defender running for Queens County District Attorney on a basic premise: imprisonment should not be the first solution to social problems. Our society spends $143,000 per prisoner to lock them up. Tiffany wants to put that money toward jobs and education, not jails and incarceration.

Her race is a continuation of our fight to make the Empire State more just. Just last fall, we swept the so-called Independent Democratic Conference out of power in the New York Senate with 6 Our Revolution-endorsed state senators. Let’s take the next step revolutionizing New York City and the criminal justice systems of these major American cities.

Yasmine Taeb is running for the Virginia Senate on a platform of protecting a woman’s right to an abortion, the passage of the Equal Rights Amendment, and paid parental leave – an issue that her opponent ignores. Control of the Virginia Senate may swing to Democrats in this fall’s election, and we need to make sure progressives are in power to drive the agenda in a unified state government – electing Yasmine is a critical piece of that mission.

Helen Gym and Erika Almirón are running for Philadelphia City Council.

Helen is an activist who co-founded Parents United for Public Education, and in her first term on the city council, she led the effort to pass a Fair Work Week law so that 130,000 workers could have stable schedules, a path to full-time work, and the opportunity to support themselves and their loved ones.

Erika is the daughter of house cleaners and a champion of the Domestic Workers’ Bill of Rights, which includes overtime, paid sick leave, and fair contract protection. Together, Helen and Erika will give Philadelphia progressives a voice on the City Council and the District Attorney’s office with Larry Krasner, who has transformed Philadelphia’s criminal justice system in part thanks to your help electing him as an Our Revolution candidate in 2017.

Jackie Goldberg is running for the Los Angeles School Board on a platform of promoting public schools and fighting for social services within educational institutions. In America’s second largest city, electing champions for public schools will have an impact on millions of families.

Together, these candidates running for local and state government have the opportunity to affect change for millions of people in their communities. Putting your support behind local races is critical. We’re not just going to elect a president, we’re going to lead a political revolution.

Warren, Sanders, Harris, Gillibrand, Castro, and YOU!

Dear MoveOn member,

This is Karine Jean-Pierre, MoveOn’s chief public affairs officer.

I don’t write emails to MoveOn members very often, but you might have seen me representing MoveOn members on TV—particularly on MSNBC.

I’m writing to you today with some huge news: On June 1, MoveOn will host our first-ever in-person forum with presidential candidates—to hear them share their big ideas to tackle some of the most important issues facing our nation today, including the climate crisis, health care, immigration, and more.

Already, Elizabeth Warren, Bernie Sanders, Kamala Harris, Kirsten Gillibrand, and Julián Castro have committed to joining us, and we expect more candidates to RSVP in the coming days.

We’re calling this our “Big Ideas Forum.” It’s the largest in-person event MoveOn has ever held with presidential candidates. And we’d like YOU to attend!

Can you chip in $3 to help make our Big Ideas Forum a success? You’ll be entered to win a trip to San Francisco for the event!

We hope that our event will help make sure that the 2020 campaign is about big, transformative, progressive policies that will help push our country forward, advance a vision of equality, and help to undo the decades (centuries, even) of policies that have benefitted the few at the expense of the rest of us.

But the costs of pulling off this event—including renting a large theater, planning the logistics, handling security, and broadcasting the event—are substantial. That’s why we need your help, James.

Each candidate in attendance at the Big Ideas Forum will be given five minutes to talk about a single big policy idea that they have proposed and believe will benefit our country; a moderated conversation about their proposals and what makes them stand out will follow.

We’re expecting ideas that are powerful and transformative, but simple and clear enough to fit into a few-minute pitch—the kind of ideas that could energize voters everywhere.

This is our chance to get candidates on the record for big, progressive ideas that will help to shape the primary going forward and energize voters for the 2020 election.

Do you want to hear big, progressive policy proposals from Elizabeth Warren, Bernie Sanders, Kamala Harris, Kirsten Gillibrand, Julián Castro, and others?

Click here to chip in $3 right now to help us make the Big Ideas Forum a success, and you’ll be entered to win two all-expense-paid tickets to attend the event on June 1 in San Francisco!

The 2020 election will be the most important election of our lifetimes. It is our chance to elect a true progressive leader who will fight for us, not corporations and billionaires, who will tackle the oncoming catastrophe of the climate crisis, address the systemic racism and sexism that define the United States, and help put us on a path toward a future where everyone can thrive.

With the Big Ideas Forum, we hope to set the tone for the Democratic primary and define a set of progressive values all candidates should embrace.

This is a huge undertaking—the largest in-person candidate event that MoveOn has ever held—but we are determined to make it a success.

Can you chip in $3 to help? We’ll also enter you to win two all-expense-paid tickets to join us at the event in San Francisco!

 Thanks for all you do.
–Karine
