Trump’s Republican Judges Aim To End Roe v. Wade

The extreme right-wing crusader judges that Republican Presidents, and Donald Trump too, have packed all the courts with an aim to bring about the end of women’s privacy rights as protected by the Roe v Wade decision.

Dear MoveOn member,

Ever since Brett Kavanaugh was confirmed to the Supreme Court, we knew this day would come. And now it’s here.

The Supreme Court just took up the case that could end Roe v. Wade.1

The case involves a Louisiana law that would force nearly every abortion clinic in the state to shut down. It’s nearly identical to a Texas law that the Supreme Court struck down on a 5-4 vote just three years ago.

But that was before Kavanaugh replaced Anthony Kennedy. Now, the right-wing extremists have a majority in the Supreme Court to reverse the previous decision and gut Roe.

We’re getting ready to fight on all fronts to keep abortion legal and accessible. Will you donate $3 to help MoveOn launch an emergency campaign to save Roe?

Yes, I’ll donate to help save Roe v. Wade.

The case going before the Supreme Court now is the culmination of a decades-long strategy by the radical right to effectively ban abortion by simply making it unavailable. They’ve perfected the strategy of forcing clinics to close by imposing an impossible web of medically unnecessary regulations and restrictions.2

When Texas passed a similar clinic shutdown bill, it left the state with fewer than 10 abortion providers in a state of 28 million people.3 But in a 2016 case called Whole Woman’s Health v. Hellerstedt, the Supreme Court threw out the Texas clinic shutdown bill as a violation of Roe.4

Now, just three years later, the Supreme Court is poised to overturn that precedent. If they do, Louisiana might not have any abortion providers left at all, and other red states are sure to follow the same roadmap.

Republicans will say that they aren’t really overturning Roe, they’re just allowing restrictions. But if there are no abortion clinics, there’s no access to abortion. Period.

Here’s what we need to do to fight back:

1. Defeat Donald Trump for re-election. If Trump gets four more years, he’ll almost surely get to replace Ruth Bader Ginsburg and maybe even Stephen Breyer, locking in his Supreme Court supermajority for decades and driving the court even further to the right.
Mitch McConnell Haloween mask2. End Republican control of the Senate. Even if we elect a president who supports access to abortion in 2020, Mitch McConnell could still refuse to confirm any pro-Roe Supreme Court nominees, just as he refused to allow a vote on Merrick Garland. Which is why ending the GOP’s—and Mitch McConnell’s—control of the Senate must be priority.

  1.  3. Help organize a massive mobilization in Washington, D.C., when the Supreme Court hears oral arguments. The Supreme Court isn’t supposed to be political, but we all know that’s not reality—and that justices do care about public opinion. We need to make sure they feel maximum pressure to limit the damage to abortion rights.
4. Help fight any new abortion clinic shutdown laws in the states by partnering with local leaders and helping provide tools and organizing muscle to make our voices heard in state capitols.

Let’s be clear: the Supreme Court is on the verge of gutting or perhaps even overturning Roe entirely. This is a 5 alarm fire. We are facing the end of safe and legal abortion—which is a matter of life and death. Will you chip in $3?

Yes, I’ll donate to help save Roe v. Wade.

Thanks for all you do.

Democratic leadership has finally taken a major step forward to impeach Donald Trump — something more than 8 million voices have been demanding since 2017. Then Congress went on vacation.

Should Congress get back to work and give this impeachment inquiry the full attention it deserves?
YES!
